UNILORIN to Receive Multi-Million Naira Scholarships for Top Graduating Students
Sunbeth Global Concepts Limited, a leading Nigerian agro-commodities sourcing and trading company, has unveiled plans to introduce a multi-million naira annual reward scheme for outstanding students of the University of Ilorin, aimed at promoting academic excellence and fostering industry-academia collaboration. According to the company, the initiative, still in its final stages of planning, will award ₦10,000,000 to the overall best graduating student of the University each year. In addition, ₦6,000,000 will be distributed among three top-performing students selected from three different Departments. The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by representatives of Sunbeth Global Concepts Limited to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The visit concluded with both parties finalising the modalities of the proposed partnership. Prof. Egbewole commended the company for choosing the University as a beneficiary institution, describing the gesture as consistent with broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s education sector through private sector participation. He further described the company’s investment in education as commendable and forward-looking, expressing optimism that the collaboration would strengthen over time. He also called on other corporate organisations to emulate the initiative, emphasizing that increased investment in universities is critical to national development. Earlier, the Programme Lead of the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme (SEPP), Mr. Habeeb Yekeen, described the initiative as a strategic intervention designed to promote merit, innovation, and value-driven achievements within the University. He explained that the Academic Distinction Award would be conferred on the overall best graduating student, irrespective of Department or discipline, setting a unified benchmark for excellence across all academic programmes. On the SEPP Scholar Award category, Mr. Yekeen said participating Departments would be carefully selected, after which eligible students would be invited to apply. From the selected Departments, three outstanding students would emerge as SEPP Student Scholars, bringing the total number of beneficiaries across departments to nine. The top three performers from this pool will each receive ₦2,000,000 based on academic performance and overall assessment within the programme. Mr. Yekeen added that beyond financial rewards, the initiative is designed to provide long-term developmental support. Beneficiaries under the SEPP Scholar category will be enrolled in a mentorship programme with professionals from Sunbeth Global Concepts Limited, offered internship placements, and given exposure to industry-relevant practices.
