UNILORIN Management Moves to End Registration Delays

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, has urged Level Advisers, Heads of Departments (HODs), and admissions officials to work in close coordination to ensure a smooth and stress-free registration exercise for students. He made the call during a workshop focused on addressing recurring challenges in student registration, held at the University Multipurpose Hall on April 8, 2026. The Vice Chancellor, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye, stressed that an efficient registration system remains essential to improving students’ academic experience and strengthening institutional performance. He also commended staff members for their strong turnout at the training, describing it as a reflection of their commitment to improving service delivery and resolving administrative bottlenecks affecting students. The workshop was initiated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, who explained that the programme was organised in response to repeated concerns about difficulties students face during registration periods. She noted that the training was designed to better equip Level Advisers, HODs, and relevant officers with practical knowledge needed to guide students effectively and reduce registration-related delays. According to her, empowering frontline academic staff with accurate and updated information would help them respond faster to students’ needs and improve overall efficiency in the system. In a detailed presentation titled “Students Registration Process: A Complete Guide,” the Director of COMSIT, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, explained that under an ideal system, student registration should be completed within two to three days. He encouraged Level Advisers to play active mentorship roles by guiding students through registration procedures and ensuring they understand how to properly use the university portal. He further noted that advisers should not only assist with course registration but also help students become familiar with the Learning Management System, especially for academic activities such as assignment submissions. On security and accountability, he warned HODs against sharing their login details, stressing that all activities carried out through official accounts remain traceable and staff will be held responsible for any irregularities linked to their credentials. He also emphasized that all payments for school charges must be made strictly through the university’s official portal. He cautioned students against making payments outside the approved system, warning that such transactions may not reflect in the university records and could expose students to fraud. He particularly advised against direct Remita payments outside the integrated platform. To further support students, he encouraged the use of the university’s official support portal, support.unilorin.edu.ng, noting that the e-ticketing system provides assistance for issues such as password recovery, login challenges, and other technical difficulties. Also speaking, the Chairman of the University Admissions Committee, Prof. Abdulazeez Muhammad-Lawal, emphasized the importance of transparency and strict adherence to admission guidelines. He explained that the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), managed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has significantly improved transparency in the admission process by allowing proper monitoring and verification of candidates’ admission status. He added that compliance with JAMB regulations remains essential in ensuring fairness, credibility, and standardization in admissions. Prof. Muhammad-Lawal further noted that admitting qualified candidates is vital to maintaining the university’s reputation, adding that high-performing students contribute to academic excellence, institutional ranking, and the global recognition of the institution.
